A copy paste cleaner is a free online tool that fixes messy pasted text in one pass. It strips HTML artifacts, converts smart quotes to straight quotes, normalizes whitespace, removes invisible zero-width characters, and repairs common mojibake sequences back into readable characters.
Cleaned text
What paste problems does this tool fix?
Short answer: Six common ones: leftover HTML tags from web copy, HTML entities like from CMS editors, smart quotes and dashes that break code and forms, invisible zero-width characters that corrupt searches, mojibake artifacts like ’ from encoding mismatches, and ragged whitespace from PDFs. Tick the ones you need and clean everything in a single pass.
For spacing-only cleanup, the whitespace remover is faster. For full paste repair, this tool runs all six fixes together.
What is mojibake and how is it fixed?
Short answer: Mojibake is garbled text caused by reading bytes in the wrong encoding, so an apostrophe can show up as a strange symbol cluster. The tool maps the most common mojibake sequences back to their intended characters: garbled apostrophes to a plain apostrophe, garbled quotes to straight quotes, garbled dashes to a hyphen, and garbled accented letters to their proper forms.
If your whole document is mojibake, re-open the original file in the correct encoding instead. This fixer targets the stray artifacts that appear in otherwise fine pastes.
Will it change my actual words?
Short answer: No. The tool only touches formatting artifacts: markup, entities, quote styles, invisible characters, encoding glitches and whitespace. Your words, numbers and punctuation meaning stay exactly as you pasted them. Smart quotes become straight quotes and mojibake becomes readable characters, but nothing is rewritten or reworded.
Untick any option you do not want. Each fix is independent, so you can straighten quotes without touching whitespace, for example.
Frequently asked questions
Is this copy paste cleaner free?
Yes, free and unlimited. Clean as much pasted text as you like with no account.
What are zero-width characters?
Invisible Unicode characters (like U+200B) that sneak in from web pages and PDFs. They are invisible but can break searches, form validation and code.
Does it remove HTML tables?
It removes the HTML tags and keeps the cell text. For real table conversion, use a dedicated HTML table tool instead.
Can I run only some of the fixes?
Yes. Each fix is a separate checkbox, so run one fix or all six in a single pass.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All cleanup runs in your browser, so your text stays private.
