    PDF → Word

    1. Upload a PDF. 2. Click “Convert to Word”. 3. Download the .docx file. Honest note: this extracts the text into a clean, editable document - complex layouts, tables and images are simplified, not pixel-matched.

How to use the PDF Tools in 4 steps

    1. Pick a tool tab: merge, split, compress, rotate, sign or PDF to Word.
    2. Drop your PDF files into the upload area.
    3. Adjust the settings (order, pages, quality, signature).
    4. Click the action button and download your finished PDF.

How do I merge PDF files for free?

Open the Merge tab, drop two or more PDF files into the upload area, and reorder them with the arrow buttons. Click Merge PDFs and download the combined file. There is no file-count limit beyond your device’s memory, no signup and no watermark on the merged document.

The Split tab works the same way for extracting pages: select thumbnails or type ranges like 1-3, 5, 8-10, then download a new PDF with just those pages.

Can I compress a PDF without losing too much quality?

Mostly yes, if you choose the High quality setting: it shrinks the file while keeping pages sharp. Be aware this compressor re-renders pages as images, so text becomes unselectable and fine detail softens slightly. For email attachments and uploads the savings are usually worth the small quality trade.

The Rotate and Sign tabs round out the suite: rotate selected pages or whole documents, and draw a signature to place anywhere on any page.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is PDFree really free?

Yes - every tool is free with no account, no watermarks, and no daily usage caps. There is no “pro” tier locking features behind a paywall.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens inside your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device, which also means they can’t be stored, sold, or leaked by us.

Is there a file size or usage limit?

We don’t impose artificial limits. Very large PDFs (hundreds of pages) may take a while or use a lot of memory because everything runs on your device - for best results, work with one large file at a time.

    Why does compression reduce quality?

Our compressor re-renders each page as an image at your chosen quality level. That shrinks the file dramatically, but text becomes unselectable and fine detail softens. Choose “High” quality when sharpness matters.

    What about password-protected PDFs?

Encrypted or password-protected PDFs aren’t supported. Remove the password first (for example in your PDF reader), then use any tool here.

Will PDF → Word keep my exact layout?

It extracts your text into a clean, editable Word document with page breaks, but complex layouts, tables, and images are simplified rather than pixel-matched.
